We have been tossed about in the storms of the institutional and political capture of medicine and are angry and fed up - and likely to be far more selective of who we permit near our bodies in future. We are also far more likely to want to be pre-emptive about managing disease, so an amalgamation of health maximisation (nutrition, exercise, etc.) and treatment for breakages and maladies where this fails is likely to prove more popular. I think the time is right for rearranging things and for doctors to claim back their sacrosanct doctor-patient relationship, while keeping regulation firmly in the background and with uncorrupted oversight mechanisms in place.
