my GF is healthy but she feels totally different with and without a vitamin D supplement.
We do live in FL lol. and she does get sun exposure.
she tells me her doctor once told her she "doesn't synthesize vitamin d from the sun." or that she's incapable of it, something like that.
I'd much rather get her off the vitamin d supplement and get it naturally. even tho at the moment the supplement immediately makes her feel better.
How would you make sense of this, or approach this if this was someone you knew? and what might this mystery "cant synthesize vitamin d" condition be? sounds made up lol
I'm not sure what that means. Have not encountered anyone that cannot synthesize vitamin D naturally. Seems like the sort of thing which may be incompatible with life, if it was genetic/congenital.
right? this was told to my gf, her mom, and her cousin by their doctor.
complete bull lol.
I do know there are cases of people in sun with vitamin D deficiency, i think a case of farmers in India, but one can assume they are either very unhealthy, metabolically down bad, or deficient in something else in their diet.
Embracing the sun and circadian cycle has certainly been a game changes in my personal health.
I had never considered the relationship between skin flush and sunlight, that's interesting. You certainly do see that in some kids frequently though.
From what I have learnt recently, in addition to serotonin, UV-B light stimulates the cleavage of Proopiomalanocortin into β-Endorphin - an endogenous opioid.
Plenty of feel good signals baked into our biology telling us we should enjoy the sun!
Can 100% confirm the circadian rhythm reset by early morning sun exposure.
I am an afternoon-night worker, usually finishing between 10pm-1am.
For the last 6 months I have been doing a morning sunbathe on my east-facing balcony. I used to struggle to wake up by 9-10 am due to my night work, but even with such late finishes, the first week of (forced) sunbathing reset my circadian rhythm completely. Ever since, I automatically wake up every morning at sunrise, even if I went to sleep at 1am the night previously. Never felt like a morning person until now!
Thank you for this! I’ve been saying for a while that sunlight powers our bodies. I don’t think modern medicine completely understands all the mechanisms, but the sun almost has to be powering or initiating many of our body’s processes.... until a couple of hundred years ago, people spent all their non-sleeping time out in the elements, and now doctors have decided that it’s ok to be in fake lighting, fake temps, and protect ourselves from getting sun? Not to mention eating fake food, but that’s another topic. I bet many of our mood disorders and chronic health issues would go away if people were out moving in the natural elements daily.
The sun has been blocked for two months now in Devon england. It has also been extremely wet, so wet, the farmers cannot get their tractors into the fields to plant crops. Getting out into the sunshine for only short sharp moments has been a challenge. We see chem trails every time the clouds above part. I feel certain we are being injured by the lack of sunshine. It is also odd, that hardly anyone I know thinks it odd we have not had sun for two months.
Sunny days don’t seem as bright or as frequent as they used to be — in North Florida, US. We can’t be healthy without outdoor sun exposure. There’s some discussion that eliminating seed oils reduces sunburns, among many other health benefits. I have lots of windows and rarely use electric lights. I feel better without electric lighting. I believe mostly due to proper circadian rhythm. I start each morning with 10 mins of sunlight in my eyes. Makes me as alert as coffee, which I don’t drink anymore.
Florida has a history of being a respite for “ailing, wealthy Yankees” per history books. They came to recover in the sun from pneumonia, pleurisy, etc. Railroad barron Henry Flagler, among other captains of industry, built a posh hotel-spa winter retreat. I’ve toured it a few times. It has a solarium with huge skylight panes covering the ceiling, and outdoor courtyards. No air conditioning obviously, so I’m sure they could feel the warmth of the sun through the unfiltered panes. Side windows opened to provide air flow. Patrons paid for 6 months at a time, escaping the winters of New York & New England.
The sun is medicinal, free, and vital to good health.
Well said. I have been pondering these themes - how everything seems set up to disconnect from the natural environments which we evolved to survive and thrive in, including not least the sun, and how science got so topsy-turvy https://garysharpe.substack.com/p/light-and-electricity-in-health-and

naturally the same must apply to them...

This is the way. I also do night work.
What marvelous benefits can we expect from UV-Cs?
