I just spent some time on GembaRed’s website, starting my introduction to their various products. I will be making a purchase soon. I’m always interested in high value habits that can be implemented at home. There are red light ”tube closets” (my phrasing) nearby at a retail wellness center in a strip mall, but that takes more effort and also isn’t cheap. And they can’t answer my questions about emf exposure or other specifics.

Thanks. Yes, that’s an option. I had the membership for 3 mos and used it but got sick twice (I never get sick) and believed it was from that booth. I’m sure they use decent cleaning products, but at home I have a virucide, bacteriacide, fungicide cleaning product that I’m comfortable with, so to be able to control the cleaning of a unit at home is just a better fit for me. And not sharing the unit with the public is just a personal preference because once I got it in my mind that that’s where I caught a couple of viruses, that was it. 😂 Obviously, there’s no way to know for sure that’s how I got sick (many people don’t believe in contagion or viruses) but it disrupted my life enough that I wanted to make a change. Even if I wasn’t totally scientific about it. ☺️. But yes, Planet Fitness is a good option for many, and you look great so it’s working for ya, along with such a good lifestyle. 🤩
Planet Fitness has a full body red light therapy booth in many of their locations as part of their $25/month Black Card package. They also have a combo red light / tanning booth that I use in the winter to keep a base tan, a meditation pod, massage chair and hydromassage bed. I exercise outdoors and at the Y but keep my Planet Fitness membership just for using the "spa". For $25/month you can't beat it.
This is very interesting article. A couple of questions:
Assuming that the sequence of circadian rhythm, interruption and insulin resistance are cause and effect, does this mean that blue light before the sun goes down is just fine?
The data on the red light is really interesting. I’m just curious if you have any thoughts about the mechanism of those waves getting through the dermal layer and specifically what types of cells are being affected by the red light leading to this rather significant reduction.
Blue-light mid-day is most likely ok. Later in the day is where we shift drastically away from blue-sunlight towards red-shifted sunlight.
Red/infrared light even penetrates through bone. The mechanism is probably a combination of wavelength (as longer wavelength frequencies can penetrate a medium further before the signal dissipates) and I think a stronger contributor is reflection/refraction from biologic tissue.
If you have ever been in a purely red-lit room, you will see all your veins as clear as can be. Much of our tissue is of the red-spectrum, and so I suspect the tissue itself acts like local amplifiers.
I also use an iPhone. That probably has an unacceptable level of emf’s . :/ So many rabbit holes to go down. I did stop using a microwave oven about 6 years ago, so that’s an improvement.
I have a HigherDose IR sauna blanket. It’s like a large sleeping bag. In 3 years I haven’t managed to incorporate it into a steady habit so I can’t report on IR benefits (none noticed), but I find the benefit to be that it promotes a good sweat which is always good for detoxing. It takes time (10 mins to warm up, 30 mins inside, shower, & launder sweaty clothes). Not that any of that is necessarily a problem, but just sharing some points to consider. Also it’s big and has to be stored. I slide it under my bed, unfolded. But if you fold it, it will take up some space because it’s bulky & sorta heavy (to me). So maybe consider learning the weight of any product you are considering.

Do you think we get red light, in nature, through normal light mixed in with the rest? Or just sunrises and sunsets?

depends on how sick you are, what your goals are, and how much sunlight you have access to
What part of the body might be best exposed to red light if the panel is smallish...
And isn't NiR dependent on close distance?
Depends on what you are trying to accomplish.
PBM typically requires very close gap from panel to skin.
One might imagine that a soft flexible panel is better at achieving that than a hard locks
Will red light therapy go through clothes or do you need to be naked?
It will go through most natural fibers. But being naked helps with the exposure load.
I think its about the geometry of the affected parts in the living body being compatible to the geometry of red "light".

Question- do far infrared sauna blankets work? If so which do you recommend ?
Have never used sauna blankets before, but I suspect they can have some use depending on the wavelengths of light they emit.
Need to be cautious about the electric current running through. Is there a model you're looking at?
