“A medical student can tell you what homeostasis is”, but can they, or are they even taught or asked to consider how homeostasis informs about the body’s inherent balancing ability? As you’ve pointed out, vitalistic medicine does consider this. By the way, just wanted to share that I once knew a Chinese computer science professor who came from a family of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) healers and had himself learned acupuncture. Sometimes he’d give talks to nurse groups interested in TCM, and he’d describe computer binary code (0 and 1) as yin and yang!

The Bible uses the world sozo. This Greek word means "To save or deliver from danger,

To heal, make whole, or cure from disease, To preserve or keep from corruption." It encompasses the whole man and everything it needs for wholeness: physically, emotionally, relationally, spiritually.

We are so much more than measurable units and biological fragments! Of course, big Pharma tries to reduce you to just that and they’re in is the problem!

It is similar to calling a Ford car anything but a Ford. To avoid acknowledging our Creator and lifegiver by bragging that anything but Him can heal us.

Well it pays to remember that health literally means wholeness. And in the words of Wendell Berry, the smallest unit of health is community

Thanks, I didn't know that quote or even much about Wendell Berry till I looked him up just now and am curious to learn more about such a fascinating person. But it sort of helps reinforce a lot of what I believe we already know - that the forces trying to cause health decline are the same ones that are trying to disintegrate that sense of community.
